Commercial Transactions Book

We use this book in my Commercial Transactions course. The book is helpful in that it provides an overview of the materials, but it omits the statutes which you have to pull from elsewhere. So while, it may save you some money by not including the UCC, you'll have to use the 'net or another book to grab the UCC. It'd would be more helpful if it included the statutory provisions it discusses because without them you end up searching all over the UCC to find the answers to the problems. It would also be helpful if there was an answer key to the problems in the book. You'll have to rely on a Professor to find the answers to those problems. The cases are very simply reads, and only include the important parts, which is helpful. I just wish the book was much more accessible.

Reading through this book is clunky. It goes straight from cases into hypotheticals. Overall, it's not very helpful at all.

Requires you to buy a code supplement

This is a thin book, but that's because it leaves out all of the applicable statutes (UCC, CISG) and only has a few cases in the book. Most of what this book has is a short summary of the rules and problems. The problems are helpful, and the text directs you to exactly which provisions of code to review. This is both helpful and annoying - it's nice to have the guide when you are stumped, but it takes some of the learning out when you aren't forced to figure out what applies. There are also no solutions to the problems, and sometimes the text will direct you to review other cases not included in the text to find answers. There are also questions after many of the cases to help review the pertinent parts of them.
My biggest gripe with this book is that it doesn't include the code. I would prefer everything to be in the book (even if it made it thicker) so that I'm not flipping back and forth between multiple texts to find the answers. Instead, you are forced to buy a supplement with the code. You can find the UCC and CISG online, but they usually don't have the comments, which you need to answer some of the problems in the book.
